Day 109: Always Say Yes To Greece

This morning, I hopped off the boat and swam to shore with a waterproof bag to explore the little oasis of Vasiliki.

It got even prettier the closer I swam, as the beach revealed itself as white stones and pebbles, the olive trees in the backdrop growing more and more saturated.

We arrived to the island of Levkas early this morning at 3am and not without a remarkable welcome. The Greek Gods and Goddesses struck their lightening and drew their clouds high over the Ionian islands during our approach from the west.

It wasn’t the worst of storms, but the winds, they gusted at 25 knots and the waves rose 3m high. The closer we got the more I could feel the energy of Greece.

For 6 hours, we sailed closer and closer but lengthening the course as to not hit the waves head on. We wore our rain gear and dodged sprays from the sea – of which were a warm 85 degrees. I was actually quite cold with the temperature drop to 75. I wore wool socks, rain pants, sweater, rain jacket, and beanie.

It reminded me what holds true which is the spectacle of nature. The islands ahead illuminated with cracks of thunder and bolts of lightening streaming from dark clouds above. The sight struck me as symbolic as the power of myth holds strong here. Zeus in the sky zapping his bolts of lightening and Neptune holding his sea dear.

Of course, it was just physics at play – the air cooler than the water, drawing the storm from the north to the south. But still, it was like history class all over again and in real life. Like a scene I read when studying Greek Mythology.

So now, I step ashore to discover the island for the first time. The energy radiates as pure. I love it here. I love my friend for insisting that one shall “always say yes to Greece”. I sip my Greek coffee which is some version of Turkish coffee with its fine grounded revealed at the bottom of the cup. The people here, gorgeous as hell too. The climate and the scenery, remarkable as well.

I continue to remain humbled by where my journey is taking me and how. Arriving in Greece by sailboat, a dream I couldn’t write. I’ll leave the divinity out of this but life surely facts are facts. Truly there’s magic to be found in all corners of the world. Today I discover it in the corner that is Greece.

To top it off, a full moon lurked above behind the clouds all night. Her energy unseen but powerful, harvesting all intentions and wishes of moons from the past.
